Generic attributes

Generic attributes are those qualities that UTAS hopes to develop in its graduates, irrespective of the course they complete. We have identified the following five core attributes:

  • Knowledge
We expect that as a graduate, you will have in-depth knowledge in your chosen field of study and be able to apply that knowledge in practice. Further, that you will be prepared for life-long learning in pursuit of personal and professional development.

  • Communication skills
We expect that as a graduate you will be able to communicate effectively across a range of contexts.

  • Problem-solving skills
We expect that as a graduate you will be an effective problem-solver, capable of applying logical, critical and creative thinking to a range of problems. Further, that you will have competencies in information literacy.

  • Global perspective
We expect that as a graduate, you will be able to demonstrate a global perspective and intercultural competence in your professional life.

  • Social responsibility
We expect that as a graduate, you will act ethically, with integrity and social responsibility.

More information

To find out which generic attributes are to be developed in each of your units, read the unit outline. If the information is not there, ask your lecturer.

Imagine yourself as a graduate in your chosen field. For each of the above generic attributes, think of a professional activity on your part that would demonstrate it.
