The Student Voice: Have Your Say

Overview

There are numerous avenues for students to have their say and provide important feedback on the University's teaching and learning.

Student Evaluation of Teaching and Learning (SETL)

This scheme is the principal means by which students can say what they think of the University's teaching and the units offered by the University. The scheme covers undergraduate, honours and postgraduate courses.

For the University's policy on SETL, download the Student Evaluation and Teaching (SETL) Policy and Guidelines from UTAS' Policy website.

For general information on the different elements of the scheme, and how SETL works, see the University's SETL web site.

Teaching Awards

Teaching Merit Certificates

Students can nominate an individual member of staff or unit teaching team for a Teaching Merit Certificate. Nomination forms are available online and through a number of other channels, including the Student Associations. SETL information usually also forms an important part of the award process.

Teaching Excellence Awards

Applications for a Teaching Excellence Award must include appropriate evidence of student satisfaction (including SETL results).

Complaints and Appeals Procedures

The University has in place procedures students should follow should they have a complaint concerning assessment or academic progress. Most issues can be resolved informally at school/faculty level. However, if they cannot be resolved at this level, students can register the complaint with a Complaints Commissioner.
See Complaints and Appeals Procedures for Students for further details.
